Rare Roses CD: “Songs from Vauxhall Gardens”

Pop songs from 18th century London

Eight Baroque pop songs, taken from the “Musical Entertainer”, which was published in London between 1737 and 1739. Appearing every two weeks, each edition contained four songs, such as would have been heard at Vauxhall Gardens, the famous London pleasure garden.

Cécile Blumenbär sings and plays flute in a fresh, clear and direct style, supported by Chris Rowson on the harpsichord. The two musicians develop the beauty of these simple songs, providing variety, structure and decoration

Total playing time: 27 minutes.
